Announcement from the Tait Memorial Trust

It is with deep sorrow that we share the tragic news of the death of our esteemed Patron, June Mendoza AO OBE. June was an extraordinary artist and a beloved member of our community, and her loss is profoundly felt by all who knew her. To read my full statement please click here.

Despite this heartbreaking event, the Tait Memorial Trust has decided to proceed with the concert originally planned to celebrate June’s 100th birthday. Instead of marking this milestone, the concert will now honour and celebrate her remarkable life and legacy.

June Mendoza’s contributions to the arts have left an indelible mark, and her spirit will continue to inspire us. In recognition of her immense impact and to continue her legacy, we are dedicated to establishing a new award in her name: The June Mendoza Award. Ways to donate are listed below.

While we can no longer auction a head and shoulders portrait by June, we still aim to raise funds to support this new award. We invite our generous donors and supporters to contribute to this cause, ensuring that June’s name and influence endure through the nurturing of new artistic talent.

We hope you will join us in commemorating the life and work of June Mendoza, and in supporting the next generation of artists who will carry forward her passion and dedication to the arts.

Thank you for your continued support.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Melbourne pianist and composer Stefan Cassomenos is one of Australia’s most vibrant and versatile musicians. He has been performing internationally since the age of 10, and with over 20 years’ experience representing Australia on the world stage, is now established as one of Australia’s leading pianists. Cassomenos gave the world premiere of his own Piano Concerto No 1 with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in 2001 at the age of 16. His concerto repertoire now exceeds thirty works, and has led to engagements with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.

As ever we thank Leslie sincerely for offering the use of his beautiful London home for the concert and for providing the delicious food and wine.
